The Effect of Induction Rate by Fresh Gas Flow

Abstract
This study was performed to know the effect of induction rate according to fresh gas flow changes under same vaporizer concentration.
The results as follows;
1) The time of EgHalothane come up to 40%, 50% and 60% of the vaporizer supply concentration were
(1) 2 L/min; 1¢¥30", 4¢¥30" and 15¢¥30"
(2) 4 L/min; 0¢¥45" 2¢¥15" and 5¢¥30"
2) At 15 minutes after induction, the equilibrium with halothane in the tissue was done in 4 L/min
3) There are several factors deducing the difference between the vaporizer supply concentration and EgHalothane. They are the metabolism of anesthetics, rubber absorption, evaporation through skin & surgical incision and excretion to body fluids.
For. an ideal anesthetic induction and maintenance, I think, it is desirable to use high flow for the induction of anesthesia and convert low flow for the maintenance.
